100
Maggie Mason over at Mighty Girl started a list of 100 things to do before you go. While I considered starting a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days, which I first saw on Persephone’s Awakening, I never actually got to the point of even starting (this might be why Jen’s first item is to finish the list.) I’m good with daily goals (taking a photo, writing a post) or weekly goals (going to the gym). But long term is really hard for me to wrap my head around. I used to have 2 and 5 year plans. And every time, something would happen and those plans would stop making sense.
But this list is something I can handle. To some extent, it reminds me of the trips I want to take and the places I want to see in addition to some of the crafts I’ve abandoned. Maggie posted her list in groups of 25 but it’s taking me a bit longer so you’ll have to settle for the first 15.
2. Road trip to Lexington, Kentucky.
3. See the northern lights.
4. Visit Split.
5. Live off the food in the kitchen (a la Laura) for one month.
6. Bathe in hot springs in Iceland.
7. Knit a sweater.
8. Hike Mount Rainier.
9. Try escargot.
10. See the penguins in Capetown.
11. Spelunk.
12. Have clothes made for me in Hoi An.
13. Swing on a trapeze.
14. Go to MoMA.
15. Experience white nights.
Some of these are very much about the destination (Split, MoMA) while others are very much about the experience. I really don’t care if I experience white nights and northern lights in Alaska or Russia–either way, I’ll be thrilled.
And I realize #8 is just shameful given that I grew up here. That might be the first one getting crossed off.

There’s something so satisfying about crossing things off a list.
Ambika, when you say hike Mt. Rainier, do you mean just take a hike on Mt. Rainier? Or hike to the top of Mt. Rainier? Because if it is the first one, Sarah and I will be happy to do that with you this summer. If its the second… you’re on your own!
Hihihi! I have done 7 out of your 15 ;o) When I was a teen I used to list things I wanted to do before 25 or 30. I’m getting there (30) and most tangible things I’ve done… I still need to learn how to fly a plane though ;o) Good luck in fulfilling your goals and keep feeding this blog, it is a pleasure to read.
please do #2 soon!
What a great idea… but why Lexington, KY?
Tyler, I mean hike in the park, not get to the summit. And I would love to do that with you & Sarah.
Shona, #2 is most definitely planned for next spring. And we’ll be stopping by to see the new house for sure.
Liz, Lexington is where my boyfriend is from and where his mom lives. We’ve been planning to go there for about a year–partly too because we’ve both not seen a whole lot of the U.S.
Berry, it was funny reading over Maggie’s first 25 when I saw how many I’d done. Strange and somehow comforting how many things we *all* want to do.
I will make one of those lists too :)
I wanna experience white nights also!
cool blog!
?
I had never even heard of Hoi An and the whole experience! Now I have something else to ad to my own list!
oops…add.
i saw your stuff on maggie’s site.. and how cute that you had sloths on your list. they were on mine, too, until i went to costa rica in december. my boyfriend warned me over and over that they would be disappointing since they, being sloths, don’t do much. much to his surprise, more than once when we spotted a sloth in a tree, i insisted that we set our bags down to sit and sloth-watch.
good luck!

Sloths are totally worth it. Fascinating. Get a guide. Take binoculars. There is actually a place called Sloth Alley.
