Under the guise of gift shopping, I popped into my favorite place to shop (after thrift stores & antique malls): the downtown Nordstrom Rack.

While I may not have bought a dress for the office holiday party, the idea of a new frock for New Years sounded appealing–especially given the overflowing state of the designer/final sale racks.  This Dolce & Gabbana dress looked fantastic on the hanger but iffy on me.  Too long and impossible to hem given that white band at the bottom of the skirt–and just a little too tight for comfort.

This Anna Sui dress looked okay and fit fine…but it just didn’t feel like me.  I don’t think of myself as shying from bright colors or patterns but it just felt busier than I usually go for.  I think if I’d gotten it, it would have sat in my closet unworn.

This dress on the other hand, called to me.  It had a comfortable fit and the most interesting neckline and cowl back.  The zipper was in the exposed style that’s been so popular in the past year, and the subtle sheen meant it could be dressy or worn with jeans like I had on today…but…but…it is a little shapeless, in the shift style that’s so rarely flattering on my body type.  And the price was just too much, at least at this time of year when I’m supposed to be shopping for others.  Maybe if it’s still there in a few weeks, I’ll grab it.
