Christmas Costume Party 2009
The theme last year? Christmas at the Movies. 2007? The Captain’s Ball. This year was about partying like a rock star. It only took a day or so to mull it over before I settled on a classic 60s look–either as Amy Winehouse or one of the Ronettes.
People who’ve known me for 10 years thought the rose tattoos were real. I’m blaming the darkness of the venue for that mistake–though I have to admit, when I first put them on I was kind of digging it and wondering how long the waiting list at Lucky Devil is. I’ve always had a soft spot for the rockabilly look.
My beehive was no where near the realm of Winehouse or Ronnie Spector but nonetheless took a few tries to get 1) decent volume, 2) symmetry and 3) bobby pins positioned in a way that didn’t kill my scalp. I have so much respect for the amount of time that goes into constructing the ice cream-like bouffants Joan sports on Mad Men–I just left the ends of my various twists loose and hoped for the best.

When I first glanced at the photo, my first thought was “Wow, those tattoos go really nice with that dress! I didn’t know Ambika had tattoos!”
Great concept and execution. Plus, I dig the KISS members in the background of the last photo. :D
The tattoos do look very realistic just judging from the photos!
I know what you mean about Joan’s hairdos. They’re so perfect with defined curls arranged in the back and not a hair out of place. You have to wonder 1) how long it would’ve taken her to do in the morning and 2) how she could spend so long styling the back of her head without getting tired arms!
Anything you need for future parties, let us know!
I totally thought they were real! And wondered why I hadn’t noticed them before. They look great – and you get to take them off when you’re bored of them. Best of all worlds.
You have some fun friends!
hehe! Fake tattoos are always fun–if nothing else to play a little practical joke on friends. ;) lol. I love how your beehive turned out–you look gorgeous! :)
Ambika! I LOVE your tattoos, even if they are fake. They are beautiful none-the-less! Looks like you had a great time. I love that your friends dressed like KISS.
I thought the tattoos were real, too, and couldn’t imagine how I’d missed them in photos before. You’ll show us if you do anything permanent, won’t you?
Ha, I thought the tats were real too! :)
Such a fun idea to do a theme holiday party. I’ll have to remember this for next year.
I thought the rose tats were real! I said, possibly out loud at work…”Wow! Hot Mama!” You look fabulous. Hope 2010 brings you much peace and happiness :)
Yeah, I thought they were real as well. I was like reason no 156 why Ambika is rad and full of surprises. Oh well, you’re still pretty cool :)
you look so fab!!! i love fake tattoos :D
Your hair still looks fabulous.
I had no idea you had tattoos!! Awesome!!
The beehive ‘do, the tattoos — fabulous look! Love it!
